Boudoir photos are truly something powerful. They have a way of making you see the beauty in yourself that you might not see on the day-to-day, and give you a huge sense of confidence. But it can be a bit nerve-wracking to prepare for, especially if it’s something you’ve never done before. There’s usually a mix of excitement and uneasiness that comes with it. I’m here to help you prepare though, so you can feel completely at ease walking into your session!

Tips for a Successful Boudoir Session

Here are a couple tips to help you prepare for your session so you can walk in feeling comfortable and confident!

• Wear loose clothing to your session, as tight clothing can leave lines on your skin. Loose lingerie sets or pajamas look very flattering!
• Tanning should be planned ahead of time to make sure it’s set for your session
• Try not to use new products the night or day before a session
• Order outfits ahead of time to be sure they’re what you envisioned for your photos
• Hydrate and rest
• Get your nails done or have them cleaned and shaped
• Take your Apple Watch and hair tie off your wrist
• Bring your hype girl!
• Use spray deodorant (it doesn’t clump)

What to Pack for Your Boudoir Session

These are a few things you can bring along to your session to feel prepared:

• A few outfit options you feel really good in, like lingerie, pajamas, or a button-down
• A neutral set (black, white, or nude) that always photographs beautifully
• Any pieces that feel personal to you, like a partner’s shirt or something sentimental
• Touch-up items like lip balm, lipstick, and powder
• A hairbrush or comb for quick fixes Lotion or oil for a little extra glow on your skin
• Water and a small snack, especially if your session is longer
• Anything that helps you feel more like yourself, even if it’s something small!

For a boudoir session, you want to look for a studio that feels bright, minimalist, and elegant. Hive House in Stillwater, Minnesota is a favorite of mine that has all white walls, gorgeous windows that let in plenty of natural light, and some unique wood details for a little extra texture.
